Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf was a weekly television series that aired from 1962 through 1970.
This video is a golf match between Gene Sarazen and Henry Cotton played at St. Andrew’s Golf Course in Scotland and originally aired January 21, 1962. This was the first episode of many to be aired and was the first chance for much of the golfing world to see these two greats in action.
Gene Sarazen made headlines with a double eagle at the 1935 Masters. A grade school drop out, he went on to become one of the game’s greatest golfers. He won 37 PGA Tour events and was the first golfer to win all four of golf’s Major Championships.
Henry Cotton burst into the world golf scene in 1934 when he captured his first British Open Title. From there, he went on to win two more titles and became a world renowned teacher.
